I also think that people already knew Britney was not in shape - since the papz do a great job capturing her every move (rumor has it that she actually calls the papz to capture her every move), we all knew what she looks like. She's definitely not obese, she just needed to tighten up before her "comeback." So it's quite obvious that everyone was anticipating her performance because they knew that a) she's not hot anymore and will most likely show her un-flattering body and b) she's going to suck and people want proof that her career is over.

I felt like the responses to Britney' performance were similar, but not as big as, when Kirstie Allen went on Oprah to show her slim new body after becoming a spokesperson for Weight Watchers. But she did not end up shedding a ton of pounds and a lot of people made really mean comments about that.

I don't like this whole "oh look she's fat" topic, but I can't help but join. The whole lip synching was horrible, but it still was not comparable to Ashlee Simpson.

I agree, she isn't obese.

The VMAs were like a test for her. You can look at it in two ways: 1) She had the guts to perform OR 2) She did not prepare well and it showed.

Spears isn't fat as a person but for what she is...a sex symbol/entertainer, she isn't fit. Since she is a performer who is known for her looks and image, those attributes should be scrutinized to a higher standard. When an accountant is scrutinized, people don't care if they are good looking...they want to know if the person can understand balance sheets, income statements and etc.

Simpson's lip-synching was probably worse. When you throw-in her hoe down...she had one of the worst performances on live TV, ever.
