It was a dreary day Wednesday but not rainy until the evening. I turned down my air just in case and had a nice evening playing on the computer and reading. There were a couple blackout spurts, but the power did not finally go out until I was in bed, trying to sleep while the wind wailed in the night.
It was still off when the morning light revealed once again a porch roof slat had been torn off and bits strewn about the neighborhood. It wasn't as much as with
Ian, but given these were so new, still surprising. Leaves and branches were everywhere, in the street piled in the center where the water had pooled. (Again, from my tree they had managed to fall directly into the bushes below, and there was nothing on the roof.)
I lit a candle in the bathroom and did some reading. I wasn't sure what to do about food, since I didn't want to risk opening the fridge, so I ended up eating some brownie bites I'd forgotten I had. I fell asleep again, did some more reading, and then decided to go out to eat.
The closest stoplight was out and many of the closer restaurants were closed, either from power loss or just not deciding to open during the hurricane. I ended up at the new Chipotle, which I hadn't actually been to yet despite being closer than my usual Chipotle, since the latter usually still ends up more conveniently located for my purposes.
There was a long line, of course, but it wasn't like I had a lot to do. I was surprised, in fact, that nobody else seemed to be eating in the restaurant. I was happy to have lights and air conditioning to eat with, especially now that it was twilight. When I got home I tried to read a bit by candlelight, but eventually by nine I gave up and went to bed.
My power came back on about 7:30 am, just as I was waking up. Since then I've been busy with work, trying to get in some time before the upcoming trip.
