One of my concerns is that lawmakers and the media have been deliberately misrepresenting gun laws in the United States as well as using provocative terms such as semi-automatic, assault rifle, and assault weapons to induce fear in order to achieve a political goal and marginalize a portion of the populace.
I've recently been correcting people here in Australia who read the "88.8 guns per 100 Americans" as "88% of Americans own guns."
{facepalm}
Not only do people not understand that every gun in a gun shop, firing range, or collection is included in those numbers, but the survey used has a 52.16% margin of error!
But people will always quote things in such a way as to strengthen only their side of the discussion.
