(no subject)
super belatedly, finally finished series 4 of merlin & now this what comes pouring out.
people. people. katie mcgrath is AMAZING. i liked her a lot as s1 morgana (and will pine for fucking ever for s1 dynamics) but s4 morgana is impeccably acted. as much as katie charms me, she was the weakest actor in s1, but having switched sides, she easily blows every villain of the show out of the water. after she stopped smirking of course. is it just me?? and the thing with her fear of emrys! she does it so fucking well! i can even (almost) get over the betrayal i felt when the show turned morgana. i wish her story hadn't been so damn incoherent. seeing the dark final product of s4 morgana, i feel like i may have believed a developed story about how she came to be this way. meanwhile, katie mcgrath is a perfect, perfect villainous gem.
but in the WHAT THE FUCK category: merlin removing arthur's will with that spell. what the fuck?? (redundant, but) that was disturbing. it was like the poisoning-morgana moment for me, where i feel like the moral compass has fallen off the table completely. bothers me way more than him killing with magic. i like colin morgan's little determined but morally tortured expression.
other things:
- i'm still pissed that lancelot is dead & i still don't get why merlin's on such good terms with the dragon after s2. though thanks for saving them, kilgarrah. that was cool.
- goddamnit, in my head i'm giving gwaine to merlin.
- how many times has castle been lost?? i feel like a lot. in terms of recycled storylines... please for the love of camelot no more baddies of the week try to fuck arthur up. the endless parade of guest stars... also i must admit i have completely forgotten many details of s2-s4. s1 is crystal clear... the rest is a blur. i'm still trying to remember the episode we met elyan.
- speaking of elyan. do he and percival have a thing going on? I AM ALL FOR IT
- also speaking of elyan. holy moly arthur sins in the past
- merlin writes arthur speeches, gives arthur INCREDIBLY good advice that is completely ignored (except like, love advice? wtf??), basically recruited half of the round table, continually saves arthur's kingdom for him... for about a decade
- so... WHY IS MERLIN STILL TREATED LIKE SHIT. WHY IS THE MAGIC STILL A SECRET.

meanwhile, i got hooked on a few things: mtv's awkward. (cute) & teen wolf (HOT), masterpiece mystery's wallander (bleak), and ACD sherlock holmes fandom (katieforsythe is canon).
need to get back to school/do real things with my life
