CCTV just produced an English language documentary on the yue opera "The Family of Ancient Book Collectors", based on the storied Tianyi Ge book collection, which I talked about here before. These CCTV English productions on Chinese cultural topics tend to give one the curious sensation of reading Shakespeare as paraphrased by a fourth grader,

Does CCTV do English language programs often? This one was fairly informative-- for someone who hadn't seen it with you first. ^_^

Well, they have a couple English channels, so I assume they would have a fair amount of cultural programming. They could not possibly be showing news propaganda on them all the time. That other special on Mao Weitao also came from CCTV. Let me dig around and see what else they have.
