Ger (yurt)

The ger is done, apart from eight sewn gromets. Whee. Steep sided roof (less wind, more rain than Mongolia), high crowned tono (to draw smoke), ca 3.5 m diameter, and a "blanket" door (actually two layers of felt with a layer of canvas hidden between). Did you make the felt yourself, or are you using felt fabric?

Fabric (I got a great deal). Someday I'll have a draft animal (or a tractor/ATV) and then I'll perhaps make the felt for real (assuming I like the ger).

Report; it stood up well in some wind (nothing really bad, they kept promising storms but never delivered), but the bad rains forced me to produce an inner roof layer of green plastic tarp. Where the impregnation was less than 100% perfect and an uni touched water kept seeping through, but the plastic fixed that. All in all a lovely shelter, roomy, quick to put up and take down.

Tomorrow I'll put it up again in the back yard, hoping for a dry and sunny day.
