Or; YAPQ [Yet Another Parasol Question]
I have some serious questions here for becoming truly translucent.

1. sunguardsunprotection.com. Basically, what do you guys think? If I'm going to be wearing clothes, as one normally does when outside, I'd like to have them protect my skin. Putting on sunblock under my clothes is something that I'll never end ( Read more... )

As a teacher, I would say the parasol may not be allowed on the trip. It's a distraction, a potential weapon, easy to leave behind, and a major temptation for one of your less mature classmates to grab and start sword fighting with. You should broach the hat question again for the trip, DC can be really hot and hats protect your eyes and scalp. If nothing else get a doctors note about it all.

Don't take the vintage gloves, unless you're ready for them to be lost, stolen, or damaged.

Put sunblock on and wear long sleeves. If you are serious about staying pale, you WILL put sunblock on under your clothing.

Caliginous's idea about a doctor's note is brilliant. Just in case....

Doctor's note. Now that I think about it, they probably can't disallow a hat if my fantastic doctor says so...
Maturity levels in my grade swing around as much as their hormones do. They were allowed to buy wooden swords, and they didn't fight when told. They were forbidden to buy laser pointer, and almost 20 kids did. That's about a 5th of the entire grade...

@saginacave
1. Your username is awesome (and accurate)
2. You're right about the gloves (unfortunately-I'll try and find a pair I can bring w/o worry).
3. I'm a teenager. I have acne. Sunblock makes me break out. I've tried literally dozens of brands, and they all make me break out where I put them. Funnily enough, my face doesn't, just my arms/back/stomach. Do you know a good non acne causing sunblock?

Thank you both!

I use Neutrogena, and it doesn't make me break out much worse than I already do. It helps if you shower it off at the end of the day, though.

Depending on how much light gets through your clothing, I think it's a toss-up between temporary acne, and a temporary tan. Your call!

I'd go with woven clothing, long sleeves and collars and skip the wash in stuff.

Also, I don't know if you're traveling by bus or plane, but you might not be allowed to bring a parasol on board a plane.

I live in DC, and we get a LOT of wind here. A parasol may well invert- heaven knows my hats get blown off all the time. I got a straw one with a chin strap that ties and that's helped.

Mine is like this one and it's very comfortable.

DC is windy?
It's been years since I was there...
We're going by bus-from a town that's an hour north of NYC. I'm planning on sleeping, but my seat mate/good friend might not let me, bless her sadistic little heart. My mother might have a tie panama hat; she seems to have billions.

Neutrogena *writes down*
I find tans are more noticeable than acne, so being pasty white gets seen first, not the state of my skin.
Thanks to all you friendly, kind and knowledgeable people.

I still bring my parasol everywhere in non-winter climate. When it gets windy just close it quickly. When the wind stops open it back up. lol Unless you think it's too much of a hassle...

I do that with umbrellas-I'd rather be wet for a second than have no umbrella!
