I see the guy's point about knowledge of antiques. Maybe a way to break into print would be to go to the nearest weekly and offer to do any job, like cleaning, filing, deliveries, so you'll get in the door. My first real job at a real newspaper was security guard at the Rocky Mountain News. I carried a .38 all through the building and I got to see everything and everyone who worked there. And from there I went to Greeley Colorado as an engraver/photo lab technician. And in that capacity I got a few feature photos published. And because of that I got my first job as news photgrapher in another state. All that AFTER I had a BFA with a major in photography, and two years' in an Army photo lab. You get my drift?
Yeah, I know. And I know that I'm not really qualified for the job, which is why I won't be too upset at all if I don't get the job. But the interview was a good learning experience. It really re-inforced the idea that I need to go to college. (Which is on the agenda for January!) I know that if I actually somehow wound up with this job it would be a pure miracle. In the mean time, I can be optimistic.
I did enjoy Southampton... sort of... I was working there when I was just beginning to have some difficulties in my life, and also when I realized that teaching was not in fact what I wanted to spend my life doing. It's not challenging enough for me. I get bored. I love kids and I love spending time with them, just not all my time. We'll see what happens.
