My sister was just admitted to the ICU at West Penn Hospital with what we think is swine flu. The physicians there also noted bilateral pneumonias, and this morning she was electively intubated due to her deteriorating respiratory condition. Oh, crap. This is one of my worst nightmares, honestly. I'll keep your sister in my thoughts and prayers, if you don't mind.

I don't know what else to say. It's honestly something I'm really afraid of. My own sister has Alpha one antitrypsin deficiency, so I'm always afraid that she's going to get anything respiratory.

It's good they have control of her airway, but like you said, you're not an adult doc. I'm a surgical nurse. I hope she's able to wean soon and get out of there.
