The escape from Camelot was clever and very well choreographed and I'm enjoying Merlin's flashbacks, giving us insight into his back story and the terrible battle he lost. His half asleep attack on Arthur has opened Arthur's eyes to the fact Merlin had trained in self defense. I think he's finally seeing that there is much more to Merlin than just a leashed sorcerer slave.
It's terrible that Merlin is so certain that his people hate him and will despise him for allowing himself to become enslaved thirteen years before. Those flashbacks make me wonder how he was captured. He was a fearsome warrior, crackling with power.
