Amy: On October 3, 2005, Mark posted a note on hope on this blog. While I never knew Mark personally, I saved that post and have turned to it often in times when hope seems far away. Recently, I have shared it with the members of my community as we struggle with some significant changes. His message that I will never forget:

"There is hope in the midst of hopelessness. Death is not where we lose; the onset of hopelessness is the great defeater. So allow hope to rise up within you. And when it seems that hopefulness is the least appropriate response in this situation, let it rise up even more. Whisper your hope when you lie down at night; scream your hope when you wake in the morning. Live your hope as if it is the one and only thing that sustains you in this ravaged world. You will not be disappointed."

Be encouraged and know that you and Micah are prayed for.

Amy,
I too have kept that inspiring blog from Mark about hope. Thank you for you post today, so many people are struggling to keep going in the face of very disheartening circumstances. Your honesty and thoughts are an encouragement to many people.

Wow! I am blown away with how God used Mark to teach us all. I took that exact same quote from Mark's blog as well...have returned to it again and again when I lose hope. I followed Mark's journey on this journal for several years. I still follow your journey...I am always excited when you post an update.

And like most others who have commented, I too loved that post. It was helpful and I have traveled back to it from time to time. May you be blessed with fresh hope. If God gave it to you then, he can give it to you now. Peace.
