I can SO identify with that Mom (even though my experience is "nanny" related)! I used to give Esther or Shane time-outs right in the middle of stores. I'd make them sit their butt down on the floor and I would pretend to turn my back and ignore them for a minute or so. I would add in comments ahead of time (like when I was counting them) like, "boy, that would be really embarrassing to have everyone starring at you and KNOWING you are being punished!" It ALWAYS worked. As soon as the time-out (general screaming, kicking, sobbing) was over... I would say, "ok, time-outs over. Let's go have fun and shop nicely now." They would totally act like little angels after that.... well, at least for the next 20 minutes or so. hehe
oh yeah. I babysit for them as often as I can, and they usually call (well, Sharon/their Mom calls) at least once a week. Esther is a flower girl in my wedding in April, and Shane is our ring bearer!
After the kids get the idea that you are NOT going to put up with their crap in a store, they would usually stop misbehaving after the first warning: "that's a ONE!" hehe

That's a great idea! That way they managed to make it through the store eventually. Do you ever hear from them now?
