Yo -- I'm writing a paper on social networking on LJ and I was wondering if any of you had any stories you wouldn't mind me sharing in my paper

1. Not really - I'm always surprised when someone mentions me in a post or says, "I'm doing this meme/quiz/game because Misty did it." 2. I try to avoid the drah-ma when at all possible. There's been a huge debate among writers on LJ, and even though I have opinions on the subject, I can't help fearing that whatever I write will be seen as wrong, and I'll be attacked. It's happened in the past, and I'm not emotionally prepared to handle it again. Maybe that's cowardly, but I'm going to protect myself first. 3. Keeping up with faraway friends, entertainment, a little sharing. 4. Yes, actually. 5. Nope. I had one of those firmly in place long before there WAS an LJ. 6. I don't think my LJ persona is all that different from my real persona. Then again, I'm several different people in real life, so it's hard to call. 7. No. 8. No. 9. Yes - at cons, I often meet people as their LJ handles. 10. Not unless you count philipmcavery/ Ha! I've only flown once in the last ten years, so I imagine I might call on LJ pals if the need ever arises

1) I like to think I have a leader behavior IRL, but not so much on LJ, as far as I know. 2) I've done a fair bit of giving advice/ideas and going through communities, making new friends that way, but not really lately. 3) I write about the things I may forget later - thoughts that occur in the spur of the moment, for instance. Also, whatever insight I may get at the time may not stay with me.. Reading those again later is helpful. 4) Not a close friend .. yet -- but the friendship is on its way there. 5) No. 6) I don't think so. I try pretty hard to be myself.
7) No. 8) I've helped someone move, but they just happened to also be on LJ - I knew them from real life. 9) Yeah, that's happened "Okay, you'll love . Go talk to them." 10) No. 11 & 12) Usually, things that have to do with interests, like martial arts, go, chinese medicine.. As far as what I write on LJ, it's usually just my life, I doubt others really profit from it other than knowing where I stand in life that day.
13) Many are acquaintances. Some people become friends. :
By the way, I think that you may either be modest or not realize that some probably do see you as a leader. You've done a lot to organize and get word out about the Jalsah (and other events).

1. Do you feel like a leader here? If so, are you also a leader in real life? No; on the other hand I don't feel a need to lead. When I lead in real life it's usually to fill a leadership vaccum. Or to get something done the right way.
2. Do you get things going (stir up drama, give people ideas, give advice, network)? I give advice periodically, either broadly in my own LJ or specifically in response to someone else's post.
3. What do you use LJ for? Sometimes I use LJ to focus my own thoughts around a problem I'm having. Sometimes I use LJ to share great news. Sometimes I use LJ to get people to talk to me when I need a pick-me-up.
4. Have you made any close friends on LJ? Surprisingly, yes. We have a shocking amount in common. She and I have even talked by phone once or twice when I really needed a friend and she had the perspective I needed. The only reason we haven't met yet IRL is because we're on opposite coasts.
5. Have you met a lover/significant other on LJ?Not anyone that I didn't meet IRL first. OTOH, friends

1. Do you feel like a leader here? If so, are you also a leader in real life? I do not feel like a "leader" on LJ. I'm not sure what the def. of "leader" is in the context of my real life, but I do think that I'm someone who can be respected and I do believe that people respect me and therefore, allow me to lead sometimes
