Pam had a lot more free time now that she was only working one or two days a week and she seemed to be spending a lot of time surrounded by books. Whether it was books on pregnancy or her sketchbooks and notebook, there were always books. Unless she was sleeping or with Jim or in the bathroom, she had a book in front of her ( Read more... )

The Council office was less busy than usual, and Jim headed out once he could, since he wasn't really needed. He made a beeline to their room, figuring he'd just hang out and relax for a while, and instead found Pam crying on the bed.

He shut the door behind him, a frown on his face, and took a step forward.

"Pam?"

She didn't actually hear him come in, so she didn't look up until he said her name. Even though she continued to wipe the backs of her hands across her cheeks, her face was still damp. All she could do was shake her head, then bury her face in her hands.

Jim moved to her, gently nudging the books aside to give him room to sit. He didn't know what else to do, so he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.

"Pam, baby," he whispered against her ear. "What's the matter?"

She pushed the baby book from her lap and curled her legs up underneath her as she leaned against him. She didn't say anything right away, just tried to calm herself down enough so that she could talk. When she finally stopped crying - still sniffling, though - she replied.

"I guess I'm just feeling really overwhelmed with all this stuff." She gestured at all the open books that were still on the bed. "There's still so much stuff we have to plan and stuff."
