It wasn't long after she found Jim and Dwight that she was ushered off to the clinic despite protests that it was way too early for her to really be giving birth. Nevermind the fact that it was obvious her water had broken and the contractions were happening closer together now ( Read more... )

To say Jim was relieved was an understatement. Despite his hand feeling like it had been broken in a couple of places, everyone was alright and safe and things were good. He was still on a ridiculous kind of high and was grinning ear to ear, hovering near Pam as she rested in bed. It was so hard to believe the little person resting with her was part of him, his daughter. He couldn't love Pam and her more if he tried.

He reached over tentatively and smoothed his hand against her little head. She really was tiny.

Pam grinned up at him, still wanting to just go to sleep, and reached out with her free hand to grab his.

"She's perfect," she murmured, gently tugging him down so she could kiss him.

He kissed her back gently, then leaned down further and kissed the top of Samatha's head too.

"Of course she is," he said. After a hesitant pause, he asked, "Can I...?"

He had no idea if he was even allowed to hold her yet. She looked like she could break at the lightest movement.

Pam looked confused. "What? Of course you can," she replied, almost laughing. She gestured for him to come closer, then hoisted the baby up, holding her out to him.

"Meet your daddy, Samantha.."

John, once he was sure the messy and noisy part was over, tentatively made his way into the clinic to check up on Jim and Pam, and get to meet the baby.

He'd felt the same kind of weird awe when he'd seen Kara after Calliope was born, and when he saw Pam holding her own kid there, that awe was mixed with a little pride.

John made his way over to the bedside, pulling a chair over quietly even if Pam was awake. "Hey, you survived," he said, giving her a smile.

"Hi," Pam greeted him tiredly, giving him a smile. She leaned in a little, mindful of the baby in her arms, and added, "I think I almost broke Jim's hand though."

She looked slightly guilty about that.

John chuckled at that. "Leoben said Kara nearly killed him, too. I think he'll forgive you, though."

Pam laughed and shook her head. "I hope so.. I wasn't very nice to him during the birth," she admitted. She shifted the baby gently in her arms, then glanced over at him. "Did you want to hold her?"

Lennox was excited and nervous and a little bit worried at the same time, but he mostly just wanted to see the baby, trusting the doctors and Jim to take care of Pam. Still, when he got the all clear to go in, Lennox hesitated, chewing on his bottom lip worriedly before he finally went into the clinic.

"Hey," he said, smiling as he approached. "You okay?"

Pam smiled back at him and nodded. "I'm just a little tired," she admitted. "Giving birth isn't as easy as it sounds."

With a quiet laugh, Lennox came closer, grinning at her. "Everything I hear about it makes it sound pretty rough, so I dunno who was telling you it was easy," he teased.

Pam rolled her eyes at him. "Whatever. Did you come to see your niece?" she asked, angling the baby so Lennox could get a better look at her.

River didn't fly off in terror hen confronted by the clinic anymore, but it still took some doing for her to go in voluntarily. For anyone less than the Halperts, she might not have wanted to, but the chance to meet Samantha when she was still so new was irresistible.

"Hi," she said quietly, peeking around the corner. "Can I come say hello?"

Pam looked up and smiled at the face she saw peeking around the corner. "Hi. Of course you can," she replied gently, shifting so she was sitting up a bit more.

The baby had fallen asleep in her arms, but Pam didn't want to put her down. She just.. couldn't stop looking at her.

River came in, only a bit nervous. She smiled at Pam and then peered down at the baby. "I knew she would be small, but... she's very small."

She wasn't sure it really counted as a proper meeting when the baby was asleep, but River didn't want to be rude.

"Hello, Samantha," she said quietly. "I'm River, and I'm going to make sure you always have fun and never have to be afraid of anything."

Pam nodded, still smiling. "She didn't seem so small when she was kicking around in my stomach," she laughed. "But, she's definitely small."

She reached up with her free hand to brush back the little bit of dark hair on her head, then looked back at River.

"Did you want to hold her?"

Dwight had told Angela that Pam was having her baby. Being a supportive friend, she waited an appropriate amount of time and then went in to visit, with a nice bouquet of flowers from outside.

"Hello, Pam. Are you decent for a visitor?"

Pam looked down at herself, then up again. "Yes?" she said. She grinned when she saw Angela. She'd even brought flowers.

"Hi."

Angela came in and looked around for something to put the flowers in, but this was not exactly a full service hospital; no vases at all.

"There ought to be a gift shop," she told Pam, just making conversation. "How are you, and the baby?"

Pam laughed and nodded in agreement. "Good," she replied. "Well, I'm tired, but I'm okay. And the baby's healthy, so.. I can't really ask for much more than that."

She gently lifted the baby up in her arms a bit more and angled her towards Angela. "She's got all ten fingers and all ten toes."
