Title: My heart beats, it beats for you and only you
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Dan/Blair
Summary: My take on Petty in Pink. Lyrics from Faster by Janelle Monae
You, since that magic day
We've been like magnets in a place
We smash in then pull away
Blair had done a good job of avoiding him until he stupidly ran into her at that ludicrous Ukrainian café he had made her go to half a dozen times. Honestly, she only used to agree to grace it with her presence to stem the incessant babbling that used to occur when she point blank refused. She had learned to pick her battles with Humphrey.
Anyway with Louis here that was all in the past. That was never to be spoken of again, or thought of. Until she saw him sitting there at one of the stools with that scarf that he knew she hated. A couple of weeks without her guidance and he was already looking like a hobo. She didn’t know why she had felt the need to clarify that she was on a date, and even worse to ask if he was ok with it. She didn’t want him getting any ideas.
Louis had asked who she had been talking to,
“No-one.” She had answered, but with a lowered voice and she checked to see whether he was watching but he had already left, and that pinch in her stomach was just her normal reaction to being in a dump like this she told herself and kissed Louis full on the mouth.
You, you're a jet, a flying gun
You kill me softly with your sun
You melt my wings and call it fun
I should run
Why had Humphrey been protesting so much about the thought of kissing her? As schemes went, it wasn’t one of her best, but it would suffice. And if she could suffer through another kiss so could he. What was the meaning of him trying to find all the reasons why they couldn’t kiss? Was the first time so awful? Blair stopped before she could go any further. There would be no thinking about unfortunate past events that were definitely in the past. She felt her cheeks warm. He had agreed in the end like she knew he would but she mentioned Chuck to be sure. She pretended not to notice the way his eyes narrowed at the name. He had always hated Chuck for his own reasons, which had nothing to do with her she told herself. She held a pale pink tie up to his neck, hand grazing faint stubble. He looked down at her and she caught herself before it could become a moment. There had been too many stupid moments between her and Humphrey lately, anyone would think…
“Tell me again why I couldn’t have picked out a pink tie myself?”
“I can guarantee that you only know one shade of pink. The hideous one.”
“Well, this one is a little pale don’t you think?”
“It matches my dress perfectly.”
And he had looked at her and his mouth had curved slightly at the edge, “Well, you should have just said that then.”
“So not-friend, what time should I pick you up for our not-date where we will fake-makeout?”
“Eight.” She bit out and turned on her heel, giving him a quick look that was lacking in any real venom, and saw him laughing at her as he walked away.

From your arms
Blair had purposely not given this part of the evening much thought. She was hoping it would spontaneously work itself out. They would go into a room, kiss and then exit without a hair out of place. It would be like kissing her father, or Eric. She walked into the room ahead of him and found a spot that was visible from the door. Dan stopped in front of her and cleared his throat. She rolled her eyes and he quirked his eyebrows, and some of the tension disappeared.
“So, I was thinking that you could put your arm on my waist and I would put my arm on your shoulder. As if we were dancing. Passionate without being vulgar. You think you can manage that Humphrey?”
And he gave her this look, a look he had been giving her more frequently and one that he had no right to give her. The look said “I know you Blair, so stop the bullshit.” She was half expecting those exact words to come out of his mouth but instead he put an arm around her waist, pulled her to him and said, “I know how to kiss you Blair.” And then he was. And soon there were tongues, and Blair was thinking she maybe should have specified no tongues but that would have been silly since the last time they kissed there were tongues and they had both agreed that meant nothing. It was just two body parts interacting. And Blair only remembered to look out for the damn spy when she saw him leaving out of the corner of her eye. Damn Humphrey for distracting her by pressing her waist with his freakishly long fingers. She should probably end this now, but Blair had never schemed half-heartedly and she wasn’t going to start now. Dan was pretty convincing she had to say, probably thinking about Serena.
“I think that’s enough.” She said pushing him slightly and avoiding his eyes.
“Oh. Right. Do you think he bought it?”
“Of course. Thanks again for helping me out.”
“What are friends for?”
And she looked at him finally and saw a look in his eye that made her feel ashamed without being totally sure why.
The ending of this road
Dashing prince or horny toad?
Who really ever knows?
I should know
Louis had left an hour ago and she was sitting in her room, trying to decide whether to talk to Serena again or not, but she decided to leave it until the morning. She opened her laptop and looked at New York Post, seeing a picture of her and Louis, kissing outside the limo. She looked happy. She waited a few minutes before opening her phone and looking at the video of her and Dan kissing. She hadn’t had a chance to look at it properly at the party. She saw Dan, eyes shut and hand on her waist, face furrowed in concentration. She looked at herself, she seemed more tentative but equally…convincing. She felt her hands go warm and she could suddenly hear her heart. She snapped her phone shut and opened up the window on her computer with the photograph of her and Louis. She had known from Paris that he was special and sweaty palms and a racing heart just proved it.
