so peter mansbridge just shoved this one in quickly at the end. seemd the guy was going to commit suicide by parking his SUV on the train tracks, then changed his mind and discovered that his SUV was stuck, got out, and caused a fatal wreck, and is now facing the death penalty for kllling 11 people ( Read more... )

Huh, the news report I read yesterday didn't mention that he got the SUV stuck and wouldn't have been able to move it by himself (though one wonders if he tried). It also didn't say that he could be liable for the death penalty, which really puts the irony level over the top for me.

There was a similar case in Britian some years back, except that guy stayed in the car (and successfully committed his suicide), and there didn't happen to be a second train passing by, so the damage wasn't as bad.

it was mansbridge that said the SUV had gotten stuck. ONe would think that if he had really wanted to escape quickly, he would have driven away, had the SUV been mobile, but panick does strange things to our powers of cognition.
