Weekend - or when it rains it pours...

WEEKEND PART I:

Saturday afternoon was the baby shower for my neice, Alex, the wife of my nephew Steven.

They are having a girl, due on August 26, which happens to be Michael's birthday. It was ladies only and they played all the shower games which are not quite my cup of tea, but everyone else seemed to enjoy them, so...Anyway, two of Alex's four sisters gave the shower at her grandmother's house, luckily very near where I live. The sisters were a tad disorganized. By that I mean, they had these word games that required answer keys, and they left the answer keys at home. Whatever, everyone really had a good time. They had nice finger sandwiches and spiked or unspiked punch. I did get to see my nephew for a brief time when we first got there, before he had to go to work and that was nice.

The thing is, most of the guests arrived late, some as much as an hour late. And by the time we were done with the games my mother and I had been there for 2 1/2 hours and I had to leave because I had another party that night. No, I am not that much of a party animal, it was just a coincidence that both events were on the same day. So, sadly, my mother and I left without seeing presents opened or having any cake!

I took my mother and came back to my house to pack a bag for...

WEEKEND PART II

That's right, I packed a bag for the next part of my Saturday adventures. It was a 50th birthday party for a friend of ours at the penthouse of a hotel on South Beach. It was suggested that we stay on the Beach over night so we didn't have to drive home late and having been drinking. We stayed at the hotel right next door to the party hotel because it was less expensive, and the party hotel would only take reservations for two or more nights.

Anyway, the party was a lot of fun. There was a Reggae Band (David, the birthday boy, is crazy for Reggae). The food was great, and I met a lot of people for the first time and hit it off with them, with great conversation. At some point some Miami Heat Dancers showed up and danced and signed autographs for about an hour.

Of course, I wasn't all that impressed, since Evan had Heat Dancers at his Bar Mitzvah!

Sometime later there was a Brazilian drum band accompanied by Brazilian dancers, dressed in glittery body stockings and feathery headpieces. At the end there was an Irish wake, even though technically David is Welsh. David laid himself out on a table and we sang some Irish songs and people went up to talk about David as if it were, I don't know, a funeral. Of course by this time most people were pretty inebriated so it was actually kind of funny!

After the 'wake' they brought out the smallest layer cake I have ever seen, with 5 candles, one for each decade. And, they did NOT serve the cake after we sang "Happy Birthday". Yet another party in the same day and I still get NO CAKE!

So, there is my action-packed weekend in a nutshell. I realize I haven't posted much lately, so thank you for having the patience to read this rather lengthy one. Take care!
