this semester was almost 100% awesome, then sculpture happened

I think I would actually like sculpture... if Tony wasn't teaching it. It's like WASH 3-D part 2. I just feel like I'm being forced to his ideas of art, if that's the stuff he likes to make, I care not, that's his thing. But I feel like I'm going to end pumping out a bunch of stuff I sincerely do not give half a shit about. As for myself, I do ( Read more... )

I think I've heard this about sculpture somewhere before...oh yeah, when Jamie took it last semester! Tony is a douche, and it's very unfortunate that he's also the head of the department. OH WELL. At least you know better. Just think about if there was some art student somewhere who actually accepted what he said as the absolute truth about art.

It's cool that you're almost finished remaking your room! I bet it'll be fancy when you're done. You should post pictures! Or I guess we'll probably see it at some point anyway. But pictures!

Eeek! People actually taking him seriously? That's slight terrifying! :[

Yeeees! I plan to make a post dedicated to it when I'm done.

Yeah man it sucks ass. Just do what he says and get through it. Just accept it for what it is, unfortunately. Like I've said to other people, I think that's the only class out of my college career that I've gotten nothing out of.

That's fantastic that you're almost finished! Like Robert said, you'll have to show it off!

If nothing else I'll have a list of rejected ideas that would have actually been worth creating.

Yees yeees, when everything is done I'll make a picture post.

HAHAHA YEAH EXACLTY. Jesus Christ that guy. What project are you guys working on right now? I hate that it takes like two fucking class periods wasted on just trying to get a dumb idea that he'll accept.

I hate that too, it's ridiculous!

Right now we're working on the one where you get three words and have to make something around that.

Hmm..while part of me thinks you should suck it up (albeit not happily) and deal with the bullshit so that you pass and all that snazz. The other part thinks you should not give a fuck and make whatever you want to make instead.

High School probably isn't a good example, but there was a ceramics class that was lame and boring as shit with really rudimentary crap we were being told to make. Soooooo...I made other shit instead and almost never completed the projects we were supposed to be making. I'm not sure how I passed..I guess the teacher wasn't as much of an a-hole as I thought (until he made unsolicited and unapproved changes to a fancy poster for the senior book I had done. That was some grade A bullshit. Especially since instead of improving it he made it look childish and cheesy as fuck).

Errrrrr....soo...go with your gut?

I think that's what I'm going to do, I was very fortunate that he seemed to like my last project but I'm not sure how lucky I'll be in the future. There are people who seem to make things they like in this class, but they have to have some pretty crazy explaining skills to get away with it.

I'm not sure that I did high school ceramics, did elementary and jr. high though, we made pots and shit, whoo!

Aww :[ stupid authority figures and their lack of designing skills.
