Why, 5d's. Why.

After watching 115 I am completely convinced of one thing.
It took me a while to really accept this, after all, there were and are still so many plot points unsolved, so many characters and possibilities to make things awesome.
Well, actually, no. The plot is now only a bunch of wtf with so many holes in it, you can hardly see it anymore. The characters are terrible plot devices with lame background stories nowadays.

The only thing the show reliably brings up again and again is CUP RAMEN.
It seems like nothing else is significant enough to be the constant topic of conversation, so why don't we just call the show RAMEN ON MOTORCYCLES YGO RAMEN FORCE or something because if there's anything it sure is NOT about, it's five goddamn dragons.

Really, Jäger and his clown family are incredibly cute and having 5d's pretending that clown people are actually some kind of elfin race living among humans or whatever this is supposed to be is so absurd, it's funny. Still...

Dear 5d's writers: Just throwing shit together doesn't make a good show, even if it's coated with pink sugar - and especially not if you try to conceal that by over-using SD effects and running gags. Making a joke out of your own characters doesn't add to the impression, either.

Somehow, YGO DM (and the beginning of 5d's) has managed to be incredibly silly and hilarious by taking itself very seriously and treating the characters accordingly. It used to be around saving the world with card games, friendship, gay boys with ridiculous hair and really hard and dark background stories where people are murdered and cities are divided and siblings usually go through heart-wrenching hardships.

Now it's about card games, stupid gags, even more stupid characters and occasional cuteness fanservice. And maybe friendship, although that's hard to tell, because basically it's just everyone screaming and eeking "Yusei" in the seconds of screentime they get and he isn't giving a shit because he's busy doing main character stuff and being the only member of the original main cast that is actually capable of doing something without acting like a complete idiot.

(When looking at this comparison, I have to admit that the one thing I miss most when I think of the old YGO times is the gay tension between relevant characters.)

Also - after seeing Yusei, Jack, Crow, Aki, Luka, Lua, Bruno AND Sherry wasting a whole episode trying to talk of something plot relevant while actually always talking about cup ramen - I think there are really too many characters to share the few significant lines the writing staff has to offer, together with almost no plot and no character development at all.

Conclusion: This is the only fandom I'm in that I like most if I don't watch the series at all.

It's so much better if karnimolly  just tells me about how horrible it was and I have a look at the bit of fanservice they offer on screenshots.

I'm going to retreat into my personal head canon and pretend I never saw this. Denial is a wonderful thing.

yu-gi-oh!, rant
