Good Eats in Philly

anarckid and I went to Philly over the holiday weekend, and we found a couple of nice places to eat. These have been hard to find in Philadelphia, based on our past experiences. Other than a couple of decent vegetarian Chinese restaurants (think Veggie Heaven but not as good), I haven't really found restaurants I'd want to return to. Until now! And ( Read more... )

I enjoyed your review, but I have no real interest in Afghan food. Although I may one day have to try it!

I've had Turkish coffee when I had a 'reading' done - the woman actually read the pattern that the sediment left behind in the cup. Interesting...and I actually enjoyed the coffee. =)

Give it a try sometime! It's really good. I liken it to a much less spicy version of Indian food (less heat, and less spices overall).

Turkish coffee readings! Who knew??

I don't think Joanna has tried or likes many ethnic foods. I remember she told me she hasn't really had any Thai or Indian.

I enjoyed your review as well and now I am curious to try Afghan food. I've tried Turkish food several times and love it and I got the same kind of coffee there with the sediment. It's just reminds me of a really strong espresso.

By the way, I think Pete is coming tomorrow! :)

Oh yay! :oD

There's a couple of Afghan places that I can recommend, if Philly's not in your immediate future. Pamir in Morristown is really good. And Khyber Pass on St. Mark's in the city is good too. (Their pumpkin cooked with onions and tomatoes is DELISH.) But seriously, if you find yourself in Philly, try this place!

I think you'd like Afghan food, because I know one of the things you don't like about Indian food is the amount of spices they use in their dishes, and Afghan food is much more simply spiced. It's also not as creamy and rich.
