YJ Rant and Squee

Dec 13, 2010 14:26

So, I've recently watched the new 'Young Justice' cartoon, the first two episodes. I loved the comics that they were named after (although not entirely based on), and I am now completely squee in love with this too. I was a little worried and dissapointed that they seemed to change some things, but then I watched it. And I'm in love ( Read more... )

I agree with your points as you stated them. My problem with the show is that Young Justice is NOT a member of a young DC verse. Young Justice existed because Teen Titans became Titans and they needed another young superhero/side-kick group. Young Justice follows after Teen Titans. And since there is a Teen Titans cartoon, and we know that Dick becomes Nightwing in the future and we see all the original Titans...well, why not go from there? Or mention that Teen Titans exists, but don't really reference it. The comic books did fine with that, and the show set up the background for YJ well (introducing the cave, Red Tornado). A throw-away "Titans are dealing with this mass casualty" or heck, even without that, maybe someone commenting on how sidekicks are multiplying or whatever, would have worked fine to show that YJ is its own group, but based on a history of the Teen Titans.

Your points, as the show now stands, are valid and I agree. With Young Justice as the first kids group, Dick has to be Robin, Wally has to be KF, and ( ... )

Thank you for your thoughts! I can see that, as I love the comics too. But I think that they aren't really remaking the Teen Titans because the TT show was so vastly different in tone to both this and the original TT comic. And I do admit that Young Justice (the comic) has a lot of legacy characters that may be confusing to new audiences (Oh, this is Robin, but he's not the original Robin, and Impulse isn't Kid Flash, and Wondergirl etc. etc.) so while I'm sad, I can see why they went this route. Also, some characters got eaten up by copyright ( ... )

Haha, I actually just noticed that you had earlier posted about this (somehow I missed it until now). I hope it didn't seem like I was reacting to your post in particular! I was actually reacting to a bunch of things I'd seen that were being a lot more bashy. Sorry about that!

I believe we should all consider this new series as a totally different situation. It stands alone: It is not Yj and not teen titans, more like a mixture of both. And I think it is really awesome.Yes It hurts my heart not to see Tim (he is my favorite) and Bart but as you said before, what the producers here wanted was to create a show in which it was shown the FIRST sidekick gathering or something. And since it is the first, I agree it is only logical to use Dick and Wally. I STILL think that it would have been cool to use the JLA and the TITANS to mentor the YJ in this series but thats probably just me...
If you are really going to do that Tim comic series I WILL LOVE YOU.
BYE!
PS. I think the ONLY thing that really bothers is that I will not be able to watch Tim-Kon bonding TT_TT

Yes, exactly! Totally new territory. It's not just you, seeing The JLA and TT mentors would have been cool, but it just wasn't the direction that the creators wanted to take it. And it's up to opinion which way would've been better. What bugs me is seeing a bunch of people going "I saw the first episode and I LOVED it except Robin and Kid Flash should have been BART and TIM >>>>:/" Not even complaining about how they acted, but seeming to think that the show would've been better if they did it exactly the same except changed those two characters names. And I'm like ??? Wouldn't that take away from your opinion of he individuality of the characters if you're saying that you would have liked them better if they acted the same way under a different name?

I will admit that I will miss Tim-Kon bonding as well. Thus the comic idea. I'm probably going to wait until ep 3 comes out before anything major though, especially since I'm not sure whether I'd want to make it completely AU or semi-canon compliant.

Robin makes me squee beyond possible levels of squee. I can never decide which one is my favorite though, so that's probably one of the reasons why I don't mind so much. All Robins are ~magical~ and as long as they do that right, I don't mind who they use, I'll probably love it. (I can be both incredibly nit-picky and incredibly easy to please ( ... )
