When two book-lovers live together and pool their collections, they tend to have a lot of books between the two of them, even after they eliminate the doubles. Moreover, being book-lovers, their collections will grow. Books will spawn in dark corners, multiply on shelves, be magnetically attracted to people's bags when they walk through libraries

That looks really neat! I'd consider trying it myself, but my bookcases are a lot worse than your "before" picture. Books crammed in every which way... Your basic nightmare.

I, um, might have staged that "before" picture - I didn't have the presence of mind to take pictures until after I was done. Add a dozen books to my "before" picture and that's closer to where we were before. (Especially our Discworld shelf - darn it, Terry Pratchett will not stop churning those fuckers out.) Your bookcases would make an even more dramatic before/after story, if you want to give it a shot.

(Also? Books crammed in every which way sounds like an organized person's nightmare, but my dream come true.)
