Let's Dance
“Au, that’s not very fitting.” He walked over to his jacket that he had placed on a chair a few feet away and produced a handkerchief. The Vessalius began to dust part of the victrola, feeling rather obsessed with his presentation for the evening.
Since he himself was having trouble understanding why he could go so long in such a place without seeing some people and why he never saw them together at once, he decided to try and draw in as many of the residents as he could with a bit of music. He had set up some what of a little party. He managed finger sandwiches and found that someone had baked cookies among other sweets and left them in the kitchen so he took the liberty of bringing those up as well, leaving a note, of course. It was more than modest, but rather downright homely, but Jack didn’t let it bother him.
It’s the thought that counts.
He began to thumb through the records, frowning that there were many he didn’t recognize.
“No, not Tchaikovsky . . . . or Liszt . . . oh Wagner- not that one. Hm.” He continued to thumb through until he finally found one, “Ah, Mozart . . . Well, one can’t go wrong with a classic.” He lifted the top part of the victrola and placed the record carefully inside. He began to crank the victrola, and after placing the needle down “Symphony 18” began to play out to the small audience of one.
He laughed a little to himself. A little old fashioned but certainly jovial . . . Still, something wasn’t right. It wasn’t quite loud enough. He felt around the side of the victrola until he found a latch and opened the bottom half. Now fully exposed the phonograph’s music bounced off the walls of the ball room, out through the open doors, and down the hallways of the mansion.
Satisfied, Jack slipped his jacket back on and waited patiently.
