Jack had left a note on the ice box for the past week inviting everyone to meet him in the main lobby of the mansion. Thanks to Xerxes’s help, he had also posted the same note in Braille so that any other Break who had been taken from a time when he had lost his eyesight would be present. The blonde had notified all of the children besides Emily. He was sure Kevin would take care of that one. In a word, he had successfully gotten word out to everyone he knew or that ate in the kitchen that the Christmas party would be held there in the lobby at eight o’ clock sharp.
The Vessalius looked about the lobby. The mansion itself, or so he assumed, had already provided decorations to bring life to the place. The Christmas tree itself was looking some what more radiant this evening, as if it knew of the occasion, and the fireplace was cackling with a low but warm fire.
With Duke Barma’s help, Jack had successfully moved in three tables from the dining room, re-arranged the few couches and chairs to create more open space, and had even moved a spinet into the large open room that Jack had found just the day before in an empty study. Everything was actually looking far better than he expected, and with the spinet present, he would even be able to provide a bit of music for everyone, and Alice would be able to share her song as well.
Jack pinned the small bit of holly to his lapel as he had already done with Vincent and Gilbert just to add a bit of Christmas spirit to his attire. The three, with Duke Barma’s help, had prepared quite the feast for everyone. There was a roasted duck with oranges, a large turkey, a ham in brown sugar glaze, stuffing, mashed potatoes, fresh bread, pirohu, cranberry relish, various steamed vegetables, cabbage roles, and gravy. For dessert there were chocolate truffles courtesy of the small brothers, pumpkin pie, Christmas cookies, gingerbread men courtesy of Kevin, and peppermint sticks. To accompany the food was eggnog, cider, punch, and red wine. Quite the fest indeed.
Even if not everyone showed up, he was sure the evening was already a success. It had been quite a lot of work for everyone to put it all together, but he had enjoyed it all so much, that the time for the party had come in a blink of an eye. Now, he need only wait. Until then, he poured himself a glass of wine and admired the Christmas tree. Though starving, he didn’t want to be the first person to begin picking at the food.
