Sorry about the tiny text, but HTML gives me a headache and I don't want to deal with it anymore. D8 The discussion is still
on my journal as well if you'd prefer to read it there... Anyway, I have a new computer that I'm still getting used to, and I'm having trouble viewing the downloaded scanlation, so I'm using Olivine's translation (:
Even though I wrote quite a lot for this chapter, I'm not commenting on everything I see. Only things that struck me as odd or confusing or that might have some kind of significance later on in the series (with the exception of one or two things like Gil's seaweed-makeover).
So here we go!
- Let's start with Gil's makeover~~~ I don't know if that got scanlated but oh my god. LMAO. Yakuza? BALD?? Tehe, and Oz and Break's faces were hilarious. Personally though, I love the seaweed <3
- It's a good thing that "time is vague", Gil, because I'm pretty sure it's been more than 10 minutes. MochiJun-sensei slowed down the clock for him, for sure.
- And Break says, "Eat the soul" What the hell does that mean? Somebody care to enlighten me? Whenever somebody says soul I normally think of Jack and Glen... Yeah... and I still have no clue.
- "Could you possibly be related to the girl called “Alice” who was killed by someone in the midst of the Tragedy of Sablier" How on Earth does Creeper know about Alice??? We all know he's a Jack fanboy, but wasn't she locked in a tower? That's a bad thing. No way would Glen broadcast that -- or anything he was doing -- to the public So no one should know about her, right?
- Alice just said she doesn't remember her death, but she remembers Jack... interesting... Anybody wanna interpret this?? I'm assuming it's just because she hasn't gotten that memory back.
- Oz is acting the same way that he was in Cheshire's dimension. Except that time he said he would destroy everything that scared her. This time it's "everything that hurts you" which to me sounds so, somuch like Gilbert. Let's take a looksie at chapter 35 shall we? Gil's words were, "Anyone that harms my master". Sounds pretty similar to me. And both of those attempts (in Cheshire's and in Sabrie) ended in an attempt to kill Alice. I'm really starting to wonder about this, Oz. We know that Gil was brainwashed, but you...? What happened to you?
- "Snakeface"... Very fitting... I like it! I think I'll start calling him that now...
- "All time is vague" Pfft, whatever. That idiot Snakeface just rand out of time or forgot about the time and was trying to cover it up. :|
- When Mama Nightray said that Elliot had been punished, I originally thought she was referring to the slap (twice in one night, I must add, Elly) but now that I look again I'm thinking that she might be referring to the pain that Elliot felt in his chest after the "Boom". Obviously this was his seal moving. But that would mean that Mama Nightray knows that Elly is an illegal contractor. Maybe because of the lies Snakeface told her about the Abyss being a paradise? But then why would that be a punishment for his seal to move? This needs to be a discussion topic, guys.
- I really like how it switches off between showing Jack and showing Oz, even though we know it is Jack in Oz's body. It makes it feel more real.
- "The miracle of the black light swallowing up the city!" I thought Yura didn't believe the lies he told his followers?? Either way he seems to be morbidly obsessed with death and destruction... and Jack... so he's still insane in my book.
- Glen said that the Abyss used to be a beautiful world? Oh did he now? Is that where Creeper got the idea? But the key words are "used to be" we all know that the Abyss isn't like that now. But what I want to know is whether or not there may be some kind of connection between Yura and Glen...
- "This must be hard for you (Alice)" Um... why? For some reason he means something other than Oz stealing her powers...
- And that was the end of Isla Yura: Snakeface. GOODBYE CREEPER!! 8D you had better not be messing with us this time, MochiJun-sensei. Yura had better be dead. And he had better not ever come back!!
- Aw, Glen napping with a birdie on his head! <3 I never thought he'd be so tame! Maybe that's why he and Jack are friends <33
- So Humpty Dumpty is searching for the soul then... Which makes sense as to why it was around at Riatsu's place where the first seal was. And here where the second seal is.
- Now, if you read closely, you'll notice that Elliot said he hated the source of the existence that has destroyed the Nightrays (not exact phrasing). And that it is the root of all evil... that is Glen Baskerville, yes? I wonder how much he knows. As far as his consciousness extends, shouldn't HH be the problem? But Elly wants whatever caused the problem that was HH. I think there are many things he knows but is not aware of, probably from the influence of Humpty Dumpty.
- Funny how the scenes of Elliot stabbing his mother and Elliot stabbing Claude and Ernest are so similar? What is MochiJun-sensei trying to tell us, hm? Obviously the situations were different, but maybe the motivation was the same? In chapter 50 Elliot said that his siblings didn't approve of him taking in Leo as a servant. Mama Nightray was about to stab Leo. All three of them ended up dead at Elliot's hand. And oh look, there's Leo, apologizing. The eyebrow is raised, folks.
- Now, Papa Nightray also did not approve of Leo. And then suddenly after they took a trip down to the chasm (whatever) in Sabrie he suddenly lets up. They went to where the power of the Abyss is strong and then...?
- Also interesting is that Fred was never shown. Elliot said that his siblings did not approve, and then we saw Claude and Ernest. I'm sure we either forgot about him or assumed that he was already dead. Or was he? What happened to Fred? And when??? I wonder if he had any connection to Leo. I wonder if Elliot killed him? Or was he just a catalyst to get this whole HH thing going? It was implied that he was the first victim, after all.
- Note how Vanessa was not mentioned among those who disapproved of Leo. Also note how, then though she died, Elliot did not stab her before she lost her head like all the rest.
- But why is Papa Nightray still alive then?! ...Maybe because he's working with Yura and helped to set all this up?
- Oh, so Elliot was not seeing Glen's memories of the Tragedy, he was having premonitions of this moment. And Leo composed Lacie. Making it extremely likely that he is Glen instead of Elliot. "It just popped into my head pre-made!" Did it now? Didn't Glen say that the new Glen receives the memories of the old???
- Ah, and Elliot's Humpty is white, meaning that he is the original contractor. And holy crap his seal is already 3/4 full! D8 Hm, let's say 1/4 empty instead so that I don't get so depressed by this. I love Elliot... *sniff*
- Now who is speaking to Elliot about "make yourself forget"? That"s a question. People with voices in their heads? Sounds a lot like Gilbert, again. And there's a struggle. External that looks internal, again. Poor Elly with his moral conscious wants to know what's going on, but that voice won't let him. Whose voice is that?
- And Leo says "Say the name" once again. There's a bit of confusion as to whether it is "the" or "my" but I have several (soemwhat) Japanese-speaking friends who have said that "the" was more accurate. So several beats one in my book. I've only seen it as "my" in TBA's scanlation. And if it is in fact, "the", it means that this could have something to do with a chain. Oz had to call out Alice's name to form a contract with her. He also called out her name when he nullified her powers. Break had to call out Alyss' name in order for her to listen to his request to change the past. So the name is very important here. And we have yet to hear Elliot call out anyone's name (that doesn't mean that he hasn't and we just weren't shown that part). So look out for Elly calling someone/something's name. It'll mean something.
- Now let's talk about the final page~ Alright guys, I've heard a lot of people freaking out over this cliffhanger-y ending. But calm yourselves. Elliot isn't dead. Or injured. That was a flashback. For one thing, the image is grayed, like the other flashbacks. And two, look at his clothes. That's exactly what he was wearing in Sabrie in chapters 36 and 39-41. Remember that Elliot and Leo were attacked by Lottie and Zwei while they were in the big hole-thingy. Leo's body was controlled by Doldum, but not his mind. After a small bit of struggle, Lottie told them that Oz & Co. was already ahead of them. And then the scene was cut. The next time we saw Elliot he was already meeting Oz who had finished with Jack's (his?) memories. So we don't know what happened in between. This is definitely when the flashback must have occurred.
- Also in that image, Leo looked like he very much owed a certain someone an "apology"... Look at him. He might as well be saying, "What have I done?!" However, I'm not saying for sure that Leo was the one to hurt Elliot. But it might be something along the lines of not being able to stop this from happening...
- Another thought: to break a contract all you have to do is kill the chain right? Meaning that Elliot and all the rest can be saved, riiiiight? Don't make this tragic, MochiJun-sensei. I want Elly to live.
- By the way, have we ever actually seen Leo's contractor seal? I don't believe we have. If I'm correct, that could mean some very good things about Leo. *whistles*
- All in all, the things I want most from next chapter (even though they probably won't happen) is:
- To find out what Leo knows about all this.
- Some Gil badassness. \o/
- Some BreakxReim hugging and fluff. They need it.
So what do you guys think?
