Whenever anyone claims to be a "scientist" online, and then makes a crackpot claim, such as homeopathic medicine, creationism, Holocaust denial, "9/11 was an inside job", "Obama is a Muslim", or the like, it almost always turns out that the person is a computer scientist -- which is a branch of engineering, not science.
Engineers are more likely to have fundamentalist craziness, in general. If engineers from a Christian background are more likely than average to end up with Creationist, Biblical literalist craziness, it doesn't surprise me that engineers from a Muslim background would end up with Islamic jihadist craziness.
And engineers don't even need a strong religious background to get dangerously insane: Jerry Pournelle is an excellent example of this.
