Before I take a car for an MOT I like to check the tyre pressures, wash it and vacuum it out - you know, make it presentable. Another thing my Dad always told me to do with a diesel in particular is to put some diesel treatment in with the fuel and give the car a good run - to clean it up on the inside a bit for the emissions test

That's exactly what happened to my car last year - failed on emissions, so the garage put fuel treatment in the tank.....and it passed! I put some in every 3rd or 4th tankful now.
