Time to Vent

So there's something that's been bothering me since a little before Thanksgiving and I feel like ranting about it....why can't families be nice to each other? Why do family occasions have to be so dreaded by everyone involved? Why bother if no one enjoys it or looks forward to it? And more to the point, shouldn't family occasions be *fun*? Shouldn' ( Read more... )

*hugs back* Thank you for commenting. The Rent reference made me happy. And I still think it's sad that family should be viewed that way...but I suppose it can't be helped. And I shall look for that movie. *laughs at the comedy relief* *also laughs at the fact that the html didn't show up on the livejournal page* Loves platonic!

Families are indeed slapped together. But they do not kill each other because of the devotion that grows from proximity, in addition to the law. And when people are boozed up and sleepy, as they often are on thanksgiving, I think that they can at least find something in shared experience.

I know that no one lives forever...

Can we pull it off?

*claps* That's a wonderful resolution. You should unfriendslock this entry.

Remember, the cult will always be together. Even after death, our bodies shall be turned into potatoes, and the potatoes will decompose and go into the ground, and then the chemicals from the soil will go up and our molecules will be together, like in the Amber Spyglass.

Actually, I think it's good your mom still visits her brother on holidays, even when they don't get along. If she didn't visit, wouldn't she be giving up even more? Even if they don't get along now, she must have once loved her brother. Isn't she just trying to get back the ones she loved, however futile the effort may be?

Yes. We will *always* be together. No matter what. *hugs*

This is making me kind of emotional....

*sigh* Half the cult is depressed today...this is not (not NoT) a good weekend... -_-;;;

*hugs Besst* *hugs Reggie* *hugs the cult at large* I've always wondered about that stuff too...only I was afraid of "growing too old" *pets a bunnyrabbit* at more like thirty or even younger, 'cause I've seen too many adults of all ages who don't seem to enjoy things. I've made that sort of vow too, a long time ago.

I don't think the idea of a family *has* to be quite as cynical as Reggie puts it. I think families *can* be loving and close-knit, it's just that in too many cases they *aren't* because people get married for the wrong reasons, have kids for the wrong reasons, and then don't raise a good family because they weren't planning on all the work it takes to do so. But it's *possible* and I'd like to think that some of us who clearly already have the right ideas about friendships, relationships, and happiness will.

*is also emotional*

*Excellent* resolution. But some occassions are harder than others to remember it - and beat back the demons ( ... )

Maybe you're right....I have tried to be nicer to her lately because she does seem depressed...thanks for your advice! That makes me feel better about it. And I *will* try to give her some extra TLC.
