So I am home visiting my parents for the week. They are members of a kennel club and the club's dog show was today. Was waiting for them to come home so we could all eat dinner when I got a call saying they would be running late. Turns out a great dane attacked a three year old and a bench hearing was needed. We just had an incompatibilist class about this scenario. I'm sure you'd have taught it better.

really? you are going over incompatibilism? The compatibilism/incompatibilism split is not one that gets much play these days. Did the prof make a mess of it?

I actually missed a couple classes: the one in which he introduced it and the one he ended it on. In the one I did attend, it did get a bit messy and generally made me look like an idiot, but it's neat to know it goes mostly untouched nowadays.

Yeah it can become a big mess because contemporary positions are not so easy to classify and you end up with two people holding the same basic philosophical position but one arguing that it is a compatibilist position and the other arguing it is an incompatibilist position. and tbh who really cares besides some dopey old guys? ethics should help people and these stupid debates don't.
