Yeah, he also said that if a murderer comes to your door looking to kill your friend that you cannot lie and say your friend is not there. You have to be honest and if your friend gets killed its too bad and not your fault. F***ing nutcase is what he was... Good thing I spend most of my time studying other people.
Yeah pretty much. I mean, for Kant, lying can never be justified because by not being truthful you violate other people's ability to be free. If I lie to the murderer at the door then I am restricting the murderer's choice to actually kill. Even through murdering is obviously wrong, if I restrict this choice then I have taken away the murderer's right to dictate his or her's actions in response to all the information available. By lying, I use the murderer as a means to an end and strip him of his freedom in order to protect my friend. Essentially, using people is really bad no matter what the reason. Dude was craazzzzy!
