Surviving school with good grades?

As people may surely know - they have lived it, they are living it or they will soon - schools are full of stressful situations and obligations that, as rightful students, we have to accomplish in order to get decent grades and a good chance at the always uncertain future. High school was a long, long time ago for me. And I wasn't great, but I  wasn’t that bad either. At least the first years. I was a get by kind of student. Partly because I didn’t try and partly because I just wasn’t any better.
Here we have 4, 5 or 6 years of secondary education, depending on what level you're on (4 for lowest level, 6 for highest level). I did 6 and started out alright. The closer I came towards my final exams the worse I did. I passed on 0.1 of a point
I did go to university after, but I just wasn't smart enough, so I never finished. Now I'm a stay at home mum with no real education and very little chance of finding a job if I ever want or need one again.
Did I miss out because I wasn't trying hard enough? I don't know. The subject I chose to study was of a scientific nature, and not the useful science at that. Even if I had finished university, I would probably have had a hard time finding a job that suited my study.
I hope you'll find the right balance and the best way to get a good start at working life.

I understand, here we have 3 years of secondary school and then 3 years of what I guess I could call high school. I also went from good to gradually worse until that scholarship business forced me to work harder.
Right now I'm about to start my third semester in university and so far things have been great (what with loving the career I chose, I feel like whatever effort I do isn't that demanding) and I hope I don't get worse as I did before, because that would be inconvenient haha.
In my opinion, the most important thing is to chose to study something you like. However, I speak from inexperience because I haven't had the need to work yet so there is a whole subject I can't realistically talk about. I understand there is also the need to study something that will help you later in life to find a job and such, and those people that find a good future with a study they like are certainly lucky.
Thanks for reading!
