Make a list of five of the things that your pet likes to do the most. When your pet can no longer do two of these five things either from physical disability or lack of interest, or he/she can only do them with difficulty or great prodding, then it's time to think about letting him/her go.

It's so, so hard. This was a lovely tribute to her, as well; her personality shines through every story.

(If it makes you feel better about being upset, I was crying writing about putting our other cat to sleep, and she was only with us for three months - seven years ago. So I can't even imagine parting from a beloved friend of 18 years, but you have my deepest sympathy.)

Laurie read this aloud to me last night. You knew that Cocoa is a large reason I decided to adopt a cat? If it wasn't for Cocoa, I would be much less likely to have Magenta. One of the first things I did with Magenta was train her to come when I whistled, although she's still not as good as Cokes ever was.

I know you are in the midst of a busy time, but would you mind if I stopped over for a little while, so I can give her some pets?

Of course you can come over, Seth. Have you watched the new episode of Lost from last night? Matt and I are going to watch that tonight, probably around 7:30. We're going to make packets of Indian food for dinner, so you could join us for that.

Otherwise, if tonight is booked, you can come over Friday night, Saturday afternoon/evening, or Sunday morning/afternoon.

I'm in the process of confirming her appointment for Monday morning.

I'm a bit teary-eyed knowing that Cocoa has brought love and good things to not only me. Magenta is a sweet kitty, and I'm so glad you adopted her.
