My family is known to have eczema and it appears to be worst for my niece and nephew. I have patches of eczema here and there. The most prominent is my lips. In the summer of my junior year in high school, my lip blew up twice it's size. Okay, so if you're reading this, the most disgusting part is coming next...so prepare yourself.
It was pussing and oozing yellow liquid that would form a crust. The corners of my lips tore easily whenever I opened my mouth. Therefore, I was stuck on a liquid diet for 3 months. Honestly, it got to the point where I was so depressed, I just slept. It's human nature. When we don't want to face something painful going on in our lives, sleeping the time away is one of many options. Ehem, one of the "safer" alternatives. And as suddenly as it appeared, it slowly started to disappear.... But for 3 damn months!!! Gosh, curses you, my lips.
And of course, Eczema decided to leave it's mark in this relationship. The horrible 3 months left me scarred forever.
I was never able to wear lipstick again. For that matter, even regular chap stick. The only thing that worked for my lips were the 1% hydrocortisone, which I have been using since. They have them in the form of cream and ointment. I prefer the ointment, of course because I don't want to walk around in public with cream on my lips. (People have dirty imaginations, especially my older siblings.) Many sites recommend cortisteroids since they give faster and better results, but come on. Would you really wanna use steroids? My siblings like to joke that I'd start developing a deep voice and a beard.
Anyways, onto the lipstick. It's been hard finding a lipstick for me and I would research but it was fruitless. I came upon this a blog made by a woman who also had eczema and she gave reviews on makeup. She posted some pics of her lipstick color and she stated that there was no irritation....but when I looked at the photo, lo and behold, irritation all around her lips. (It looks like thin lip liner, but I assure you that was no lip liner.) Truthfully, it was a sign of irritation starting and if she had worn it longer...it would not have been a pretty sight to see.
Recently, (I don't go makeup shopping with my older sister much cuz she could stay there forever....like she lived there. That's one of her dreams...living in a makeup store.) we found this lip stain by L'Oreal called Infallible. I love that it's the first lipstick in years that hasn't made my lips swell...but of course, it does have it's down points. The fact that it's super drying and that the lip balm they provided doesn't moisturize very well. The Infallible collection has very few great colors costing $12~13 apiece. Most of the colors they had have turned out to be terrible lip colors.
But on the positive side, it's given me a boost of hope. Now I'm thinking if i can't do regular lip stick, maybe I can do lip stain....hmmm~~~
