The Road Home --the Zhang Yimou version (I think there's several movies with this title). He's my favorite director so any movie by him, I rec. His earlier films are more historical political dramas (they also hurt your soul a little with their sadness), his middle films are more centered on village life (like The Road Home), and his later films are more epic martial arts type films that visually stunning. I also rec Wong Kar Wai films if you've never seen any of his; he's a Hong Kong director and his period pieces, usually set during the 60s, are excellent, 'In the Mood for Love' and '2046' to be exact.
The Edukators Goodbye Lenin Both pretty good German films though I prefer Goodbye Lenin
3-Iron Down With Love Fruit Fly (I'm not sure how easy it'd be to find this one b/c I don't think it has wide distribution but if you do get the chance, it's pretty fun) Chocolat
Oh and I just saw Half-Nelson recently, that was pretty good.
Ooh I love movie lists. :D Yours looks so awesome I might steal it.
Things to add:
The Fall! One of my favorite movies. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Never Let Me Go New York, I Love You & Paris, Je t'aime A World Without Thieves (asian movie)
:)
P.S. by the way are you still a member of iheartcinema? would you mind referring me....? :)
