Brandon and I spent the holiday weekend deep cleaning on our house. This is the kind of cleaning that has to be done from time to time, makes a big impact, but still leaves the house looking messy. But now we have color on the walls! My office/spare bedroom is sea green and the kids' room is a denim blue and will have a red stripe added soon.
The project was prompted by our cat's most recent bout of problem peeing. I spent the week Brandon was out of town using Nature's Miracle on everything from previously clean laundry and clothes bags to a book and some of Cory's toys, and of course the carpets that were under said items and other items that were just trashed upon being smelled.
When Brandon returned on Friday I told him that I hadn't managed to tackle our closet as I was too busy trying to keep up with the less densely marked areas of the house and trying to protect potential targets from the f***ing cat. Anyway we spent Saturday morning discussing ways to better protect our stuff and then expanded our conversation to general changes we wanted to make in the house. We made a list of things we wanted to do around the house from rearanging furniture to buying new stuff and painting.
Cory got to have a sleep-over at Nana's house on Saturday night while Brandon and I went to a cool play at the Mercury Cafe. So sunday morning the project began... We pre-treated the carpet in our closet (where the cat box resided up to that point) then rented a Rug Doctor from the grocery. We moved things out of the closet, filled a large box for Goodwill and started cleaning the rugs. We managed to get the closet, our bathroom, the hallway and the spare bedroom cleaned before Cory got home. Then seeing how little stuff remained in the spare bedroom at that point we decided we would paint it while we were at this.
I chose a pretty sea green color for the walls and after eating dinner and putting Cory to bed we started painting. On Monday we finished painting the spare room, cleared out the Kids' room, painted the upper walls a pretty denim blue, cleaned the carpet, and retreated the carpet in our closet. We left the bottom of the kids' room wall white for now, but will be painting it red soon.
We really got a lot accomplished over the weekend, but unfortunately we stopped short of putting things back where they belong. I am sure I will be spending most of the week cleaning up after our big cleaning weekend.
