Work continues to be entertaining. If that's the word.

Week before last, the boss gives me a list of things to get ready for when he comes back two weeks later. He says, 'Call Jan (his previous secretary, now working elsewhere) and get her to show you what to do'.

Last week I call Jan. She, of course, ahs no idea what he wants, and says that maybe she can come in on Friday 16th April to help out.

I can't make any of what he's given me make sense in relation to what she's told me it could be. I email her with the list, but by then she's gone on leave for Easter and I don't even know for sure if she WILL be in on the 16th.

Today I get in to work and there's a note on my desk from the boss, "This is regarding XYZ, it is now urgent". Fuck. Go downstairs to the other secretaries, and this is after a crap night's sleep and other hassles, so I'm close to tears.

I find out that not only is his 'urgent' stuff not needed until mid-May, but there's a departmental reshuffle going on and his stuff may not even be required at all.

So, hello, I'm the unsuspecting meat in the sandwich of a departmental battle between TPTB and the retiring won't-let-go professor I'm working for. NOT. HAPPY. I'm the one the cranky old bastard is going to rant at if he comes in and his stuff's not done!

Add to that, the other two profs I do work for weren't in either, so there was squat to do. I told the other secs I wasn't hanging around all day waiting for himself to come in and grumble at me. I'd be back Friday when hopefully everything could be sorted out. And came home.

The other secs and the office manager are on my side in this. Their support is the only reason I didn't just quit on the spot.

So, now we see what happens, but I am not taking any shit because the faculty can't sort itself out.
