Well, we went to the wedding yesterday. Aside from the 'we're late' panic when somebody wouldn't stop watching the Australian Grand Prix until we were running late, it was a good day :}
The ceremony was not too long. It was performed by a Civil Celebrant, and written by the couple themselves. They also included the Celtic tradition of 'tying the knot', with a ribbon tied loosely around their interlocked wrists. It was all very cool, aside from the fact that stupid here wore my not-quite-broken-in high heels and kept sneaking down the back of the crowd where I could get the durn shoes off without too many people noticing.
I (and several other women, including the bride) changed into flats by the time we got to the reception, which was good, cos we got good and drunk and danced our asses off. Except for Rod, of course, and another guy in our group, Jason, who don't do the dance thing. Jay because he's a big hulking lovable lump but has NO grace at all, and Rod because he suspects he may not be a very good dancer and won't risk looking foolish.
Unfortunately, my dnacing has been caught on video by Rick, a young guy of 16 who our little Storm fans group met/adopted at touch football. He moved down from New South Wales with his Mum and her boyfriend. They are really cool and let Rick hang out with us older folks - they don't expect us to be responsible for him, but trust us to look out for him as we would anyone else in the group. Rick is very cool and sensible for a 16 year old guy; he'll be a right li'l lady-killer by the time he's 19 or 20 :p
But anyway, there was a video camera, and Rick's running around videoing us all ... I cringe to think what it'll turn out like ;D
The food was great, and so was the band - hence all the dancing. Toward the end of the evening - well, there was this ring suspended from the ceiling to hold the streamers which went from the ring to the walls, if you get the idea. Then Dee and Buzz decide to dteach the streamers from the walls and announce, "It's a Maypole!"
See the Pagan fall in a giggling heap - they have NO idea what they're saying XD ... but we all took streamers and danced 'around the maypole' until the streamers all tangled and we couldn't go any further :p
This morning - well ... I'm better now, but for a while there I couldn't look at the word 'Blurty' without feeling queasy! XD.
