Really need you to read this :-)

We need a new name for our store. The old one is too long, and too off topic, and too close to whats in the area. Thus I need opinions. The goal is something short, emphasizing the word games (or something that will scream "We sell board games/puzzles/gambling supplies"). I'm not worried about selling to role players or magic players, I want to ( Read more... )

I don't like Saga Games, Colossal Games or Non-Stop Games. Mythic Games is kinda cool. I like Infinite Games and Game Emporium. As a board game player either of these would get my attention. Legendary Games or Endless Games (a game beyond?)might be other choices - Mom Steketee

Why can't I comment on my own journal. sigh. This might be a double reply.

Both Legendary games and Endless games are already taken unfortunately. Endless was one I liked too. This list is all things that on a brief check weren't taken already on the web.

Thanks for the input, I think that you are pretty much exactly the demographic that I want to notice the name as I have no other solid way to advertise or otherwise catch attention.

Since I'm your demographic, I'll reply again. I too thought of some play on Board/Bored Games and discarded it for the same reason you did, however, Dave's clever use of the question mark would make for an interesting sign. I also like Mind Games; I don't like Head Games (sounds like a porn shop to my dirty mind).
How about In The Game? Does that sound too much like a sporting goods store? - Mom Stek

I like this way of thinking. Simply changing the structure could help a lot.

That being said, you're a little all-over-the-map here. A week and a half ago you identified good names as being Neutral Ground and Altered States, names that seemed to barely suggest the store content. Meanwhile, you dislike "Read the book, play the game" which is perfect for bringing outsiders in, albeit still too long. "Books" and "comics" also seem to be code for "more esoteric games" have you considered those mainstays?

But more to what you asked for...
I dislike:
Saga Games/ Game Sagas
Total Games (totally!)
Nonstop Games

I like:
Imperial Games
Mythic Games

I am neutral to:
Colossal Games
Game Emporium
Infinite Games

I suggest (without any knowledge of availability):
Mind Games
Gamescapes
Dynasty Games

The reason I commented on liking Altered States and Neutral Ground but avoid them for myself is that they both have solid advertising budgets. Right now the way I see it is that I know enough people that I can get the younger crowd of role playing gamers, and card players simply by word of mouth and some minimal advertising. But since we are ideally going to be right on the Parkway and very visible to the adult casual crowd some of whom are well aware theres no where in the area for board games, I want a name thats going to make it very obvious thats among the products we carry. And a name thats not going to conjure images of the usual dank comic shop full of the socially inept (even though since I will be running it, it will be full of the socially inept, but at least they will have to come inside to find that out :-). I remember looking up Dynasty games I don't know why I didn't include it. Gamescapes also works into GamEscapes, and both bring up a lot of hits on google. Mind Games I really like a lot... but it looks like its ( ... )

Okay, that makes the motivation more clear. How about this:

Bored? ... Games!

See? It's like a question and answer. Okay, maybe that was only good for me. Sometimes that's all that counts.

Actually, I don't have a good idea and I'm not super excited about any of the ideas up there. Too bad Epic Games is taken, cause that one sounds good.. durrr, which is probably why it's taken. Um..

Pete says you should call it Green Shirt Games - Mom Stek

I don't know about Green Shirt Games, but Green is not something to walk away from. How about The Gaming Green? It's a little like a putting green or Bowling Green, but it sells what you have. Game Green would work if you want your store to be a necrotic infection. I wouldn't suggest Green Games or Green's games though, they're too obvious.

Erin jokingly suggested last night we call it Jupiter Games. Everyone we've mentioned it to since then has liked the name.

The Gaming Green I think has potential, but Eli is half of this, and I know the websites original name, "Eli's Magic Shop" was an issue for me, so I would have to check with him on names along those lines.

Right, I wouldn't want to snub a partner like that. Eli's Gaming Green? I think Jupiter Games could work too.
