Robe Francaise.....oh boy

Okay, so while I was waiting for my co-authors' comments on my latest abstract submission I surfed around the net reading about 18th century sacque gowns (aka Le Robe Francaise....hohoho). I'm still throwing around competition ideas for Mega, but I hadn't really done a lot of research for Marie Antoinette so I figured why not just look around ( Read more... )

I only have experience with that Simplicity pattern and I will tell you it is NOT easy to follow lol It is so vague with the instructions! I would just stare at it for hours like "wait what...WHAT!?!" The underwear pattern I pretty much just followed exactly but I had to alter the dress pattern a great deal for what I was making.

Maybe somebody on cosplay.com would know which period patterns were good?

And I say if you're going to do Antoinette, you might as well be as fabulous as possible!

Yeah, I read through the directions for both last night....the underwear was suuuuper straightforward. The dress, well, wasn't. Although I could understand a lot of how it went together, the pleating directions were pretty heinous. I'd want to make some changes anyhow, like maybe putting in a zipper instead of the eyelets in the back (I am NOT above a little easiness in a gown like this lol) and doing a one-piece bodice front since the design I'm leaning towards has that...or else I'd need to make a stomacher...which I guess I could do.

Okay, away I go to coscom!

Oh god the pleats, they might as well just say MASH THIS FABRIC TOGETHER AND MAYBE SEW IT SOMEWHERE lol

I needed a plain fitted back so I just used the back of another gown pattern to draft one to match the rest of the dress pattern.

Good luck with pattern searching!
