I just read this entire novel nonstop. It was fantastic. Adventure, romance, nuanced characters, believable historical atmosphere - everything was in place. It isn't porn though; there's no explicit sex. That would have diminished this particular story ( Read more... )

It sounds like a good book. I honestly should read more. I'm currently reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but I only read about one page a day and it's really dissapointing considering I would finish books in an entire day when I was in second and third grade. :(

Hi there. I'm one of the authors of 'The First Duty' and was idly Googling some of my old stuff when I came upon your rec. Just dropped by to thank you for your kind words; really glad you enjoyed the story and hope that someday you get to see the series - it was made on a shoestring but like so much BBC output concentrated on the performances and was all the better for that.
