One item, though. The US is not a 2-party system. We actually have over 6 parties, but basically only 2 seem to ever get the majority of the votes. Sometimes a 3rd party candidate or even an independent candidate will get elected.
Another interesting fact is that the American People do not actually elect the President. We elect a group of people called the Electorial College and they elect the President. True, that their votes are pledged, but that is not a guarantee that the vote will be cast that way. Sometimes it doesn't and that makes for a very interesting time around here, especially if the race is very close.
