Outside pets

I had the opportunity to take a few pictures of the fox kits the other day. She had two kits this year. There are also coyote pups, but they are too shy to get near them, so it may be a while before I can have photos of them as well.

Photos are in my scrapbook.

Ooh. Foxes. Are the animals regulars? Do they live around your farm?

Yes. I have 2 dens of about 6 fox(es) each. There is a female coyote who's been a regular for about 5 years now. She has 2 or 3 pups every year, but they all seem to disappear after a while. I think she's using the den for safety and taking the pups to the outer wooded areas closer to the Delaware River on the western side of the state. The fox hang around all the time and are a favorite in the neighborhood.

This evening I found a baby rabbit on my deck. The mother rabbit was close by, so I was careful to take only one picture. I have no idea how that rabbit got there, but it's the safest place around the house.

There's a pair of puma in a neighboring township that are terrorizing a golf course. The game wardens are hunting for them to tranquilize them and put them into a more secluded place.

And I'm only about 50 miles from New York City? Bizarre, right?

I have a large wooded area where most of the wild animals live. They live on the farm. The area is about 3 acres or so and the bushes, trees, etc. are very thick.

You can see the edge of that area in the fox photos.
