Waking up during your dreams is really key to remembering them. People tend to dream at about the same times every night (er... morning), provided they have a regular sleeping schedule. If you set a quiet alarm next to your head and try different times, you can probably pin down a time where you're most likely to recall dreams. I've also found that an attempt to write about dreams a few hours after waking up spurred further recollection from a few minor details.

Oh, and there's this, if you wanna look funny while you sleep:

I found that telling someone about my dreams helps a lot remembering them.
And lucky you to be free of nightmares!

Ah, dreams. I love my dreams, too, and used to have the same experience that you do. Pregnancy itself brought some fantastic dreams that your post just brought to mind again. Usually good, but a few were the worst I've ever had. With K I had three distinct, unforgettable dreams about people dying: my mom, E, and Mike. With my mom, it was from a fire. It was so real I desperately wanted to call the next day to check on her. I held off, but then talked to my dad the next day and found out that the night I had that dream, there had been a fire in their basement that my mom found. They put it out themselves and were okay. A month or so later we were on a vacation. The night before we were going to drive home, I had a dream that E was dead, and we ended up deciding to put off our return trip. Happily nothing came of the dream about Mike, either. Those dreams were something else. Still, I love dreams, and perhaps once K stops coming in during the night, they'll return. Happy dreaming!
