The more your sister and I talk about our school experiences, I'm actually suprised about the number of religious issues dealt with in public schools. And, just taking a guess, even in a public school, one has certain moral standards, just these aren't taught from a religious point of view.

One thing I think the author fails to mention though, is even in a private school, one is still forced by the state to teach a basic cirruiculum. In a way, that makes a private school under a certain amount of government control as a public school.

Have you heard the general survey that current students think our individual rights are too lax as it?

Not a problem. Oddly enough, during my flight today, I was thinking about the whole questioning authority thing, and if I remember correctly, the first class I was really prompted about that was a theology class.

But yeah, I'm wondering how long newspapers will stay around ....

question for discussion venusgoddess18 March 15 2005, 06:10:13 UTC
is it better to have propoganda from a governmental aspect, or a religious one?

I have to disagree. . .I think private schools are the ones that don't let their students think for themselves. But i guess that's just my bias. Maybe these government-controled schools don't encourage students to compair the tax issues of 1700s and today, but atleast everyone is allowed to go to school without having to abide by the moral standards being thrown at them from all sides.

now. . .WHY am i up at 1 AM reading an article about taxes?

like the whole - gays can't get married because marriage is scared argument vs. going and getting married in Vegas to someone you met the night before?

Did you go to a private school? Because i can tell you that they are far more closed-minded and (no exaggeration) fascist in the way they limit speech, thought, and expression. You apparently think all government is inherently bad, so you cram the world into the appropriate box.

Yes, I did go to private school. And I think you mistake putting restrictons on things for being close-minded. We were restricted in the clothes were wore (though some public schools do have uniforms), but I can't remember ever being restricted as to our speech and thought.

Government is bad - think of it this way - there can be no true liberty with government.
