I read about 5/8s of that, and gave it up. I thought she really belabored the point -- "Yes, yes, I get it already." I should probably try to finish it sometime, now I've had a break.
Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle does a good job of showing how important the development of solid currencies in Europe were to creating a classless society -- once there was real money, the peasants could save and trade and begin to better themselves -- but it's 3000-4000 pages between all three books, and there's definitely no reason to read them other than being a Stephenson fan. I'm still digesting all of it.
