i started on sungkyunkwan scandal this week and have been hooked ever since episode 2. i've even put secret garden on hold, which is saying alot.
love the jalgeum foursome! it's nice that the show made them friends in a very natural and organic way. didnt seem forced and it's nice that they still squabble. at this point i still favour yong ha and jae shin over yoon hee and seon joon, but am liking all the characters!
elly and bridget, i can TOTALLY understand why you guys are so in love with moon jae shin! for him, i'll make an exception to my 'no moustache' rule hahaha. i think i was already biased towards him before the show (cos i heard so much about his character from you guys), but i'm definitely know who im gonna support (and feel sorry for, inevitably). why isnt he the main lead?!
also, i dug up this HILARIOUSLY UNCOOL photo of yoo ah in from strongest chil woo. yoo ah in, i'm so glad you don't look like that in SKKS!
every time the main "villain", the student body president, appears, i just feel like giving his smug face a tight slap. seriously. not just cos he is always up to no good, but also cos they ALWAYS use the same camera angle for him - glaring at something just behind the camera - it's annoying! (this is pretty much how he looks all the time). i seriously hope he gets slapped soon in the show, he deserves it
my biggest quibble with the show would be the relationship between yoon hee and seon joon and the fact that even though he doesn't know she's a girl (yet - im at episode 11), he already TREATS her like a girl. and neither of them find that strange. also i think yoon hee acts too much like a girl to be convincing, always looking round-eyed and astounded about something, and she cries too much. i also think the bathing/discovery scene could have been prevented if she had just been a bit more sensible and a)bathed faster and b)not had any lights on. but anyway, as far as cross-dressing shows go, it's being handled pretty well here. she's not TOO girly or trying TOO hard to be manly (tw hanakimi anyone?)
(huge change in tone)
time to have some proper reflection about this past year and to plan for the year ahead! somehow, i both look forward to and dread 2011.
why is new year's such a big event? what's so special about one year ending and the next beginning that causes it to be celebrated the world over? isn't it just the passing of time? i don't have some cheem philosophical/existential answer for that, it's just a question that suddenly came to mind. i guess Man just innately knows that a new beginning is always worth celebrating.
