Inception

I saw Inception.

It wasn't that good and I don't think it deserves its praise.

Chris Nolan is still in love with himself.

I feel more vindicated in looking down on people in that fandom now.

So, in other words, no surprises at all.

The thing that bugged me most about the movie was how goddamn boring and logical the dreams were.

What's the fun in making a movie about dreams if you're just going to do standard action movie setups?

THAT bothered me a lot. It's just so... sterile. And yeah, standard: action movie, fridged wife, manpain, manic pixie dream girl (surrogate child edition) who helps uncover it all. They just overlaid needless complications. I feel like a lot of the people who were impressed didn't follow the movie very well... Or at least not well enough to notice all the plot holes and contradictions.

Also, Arthur/Eames? I expected them to, IDK, talk to eachother. It's like the new Matt/Mello.

I have no idea what it is that Christopher Nolan does that keeps people so impressed. In theory, he comes up with some arguably "high concept" action movies, but he's utterly incapable of pulling the damn things off. Inception was... it was fun. I enjoyed it, but it kind of failed to follow through on its core concept of "dream diving" and it was pretty cliche. The Dark Knight was a total mess. It spent 80% of its running time telling the audience all about how cool and deep its core themes were because the subtext was non-existent.

I'm so happy you agree with me on TDK! It was alright the first time and the action parts were pretty good, but trying to watch it again is hard because there's just so much talking and so much of it is drivel that doesn't stand up to any kind of scrutiny.
