AWE: viewed, viewed, and now reviewed

May 25, 2007 00:02

SPOILERS BE HERE, IN ABUNDANCE.

This is written both after the first and second viewing of the movie, FYI. If that is relevent in any way. Probably not. Er. Anyways.

Right away, one could tell this one was going to be different. The darkness, the seriousness, the so-very-undisneyness; I loved that. DMC was kind of a step towards the epic drama and it ( Read more... )

Halloa, 'tis I, the random new fan again! I was wondering if I could metaquote a bit of this entry? Your phrasing is amusing.

Whoa, I was just replying to your last comment when this popped up. 8| Firstly, thanks very very much for reading my fic! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And metaquote to your heart's content. What good is my humourous phrasing otherwise? =3

Hey :) I'm here via metaquotes, and figured I'd toss in my two cents (it's your lucky day!). I've seen AWE a couple'a times, too, and each time I leave the theater, I find myself with more to think about...which I certainly didn't expect, but in retrospect, there really is quite a bit that can be food for thought. Mainly I've thought about the whole Will-and-Elizabeth-together-only-once-every-10-years deal, and I think I have some options figured out. (Yes, I do quite possibly have too much time on my hands. *LOL*) It's not that they can't get together more often, it's just that he can't go ashore more often...right? What would stop them from meeting up somewhere out in the middle of the ocean? Elizabeth has his heart, so if it works like it did with Davy Jones, all she'd have to do would be...er...whatever it is that makes the Dutchman appear when the heart-holder wants it. Or, if that doesn't work, all they'd have to do would have Elizabeth (and son) get killed at sea and choose to crew instead of passing on. Instant family ( ... )

Totally plausible--though perhaps a bit morbid XD ("Come on, now, junior. Just sit still so I can shoot you and we can go visit daddy.")
Of course, I'm now of the mind that what T&T are indignantly exclaiming about is true; Will is essentially free after ten years if Elizabeth has been faithful (and according to the movieverse she has). Not sure if you've heard of all the fuss about it, but pretty much, there was such a huge amount of editing done that an important plot point (in the writers' books) wasn't made clear. The reason Davy Jones had to remain captain was because Calypso didn't remain faithful for ten years, which explains a bit more the extreme resentment he feels for her. Or perhaps it's simply that they have to meet them at the end of ten years? That would ease the mind of many a Sparrabethian. >.

Aww, I do hope they get to be together after the ten years. That'd be a lot better than the whole once-a-decade thing. That kind of makes me wonder, though - what about Jack? What would've happened to him if he'd stabbed the heart instead? He didn't have anyone he was in love with to wait for him (unless you count Elizabeth, and that's debatable anyway), so I wonder if there would've been any chance for him to get out of the Flying Dutchman deal - assuming he'd want to.

Aye, for Jack, I think it would have been an eternity deal. Because he's got no one in love with him (except MAYBE Elizabeth, and we know she won't be faithful if Will's around), and only one day every ten years to GET someone to love him. Unless, of course, Gibbs swings that way? X) And I do think Jack would want out after a while. Luckily he realized in the end that being trapped in immortality wasn't for him.

Hello! Here from Metaquotes. ^_~

Quoi, you say? A Willabethian, Sparrabethian, and Norribethian? XD yeah, baby.

I know exactly what you mean. She's so damn slashable!

At first I was on the verge of complaining that there was no real conclusion to her and Davy's relationship in the end, but then one has to realize that she no longer has a single physical form. It's not possible for them to have a big soppy kiss like Willabeth (though this brings of the question of how the hell they fell in love in the first place).

Well, she is a goddess. I admit I don't know much about Calypso, but in most pantheons, gods and goddesses can take any form she wants (like Zeus taking any one of a million animal forms in order to sex up chicks).

Le sigh. I love this series so bad.

A fair point! I think I need to post my post-third-viewing review, revise my theories a bit. :P

(digging this metaquotes thing! Someone finds you amusing and, poof, conversation!)

Here (somewhat late) via metaquotes and MAJOR agreeing on Geoffery Rush. I've been a Barbossa fangirl from the start, squeed like a mad thing when he came back in DMC, and was so very pleased with him in AWE. Oh, Geoffery Rush, never stop being amazing.
*would totally bring him roses if it wasn't creepy stalkerish*

Here's me, replying late as the devil. :D Have to add my hearty agreement to that though, dear Geoff is a genius. I've always thought of somehow arranging a giant birthday parcel for him with a bunch of fans sending him presents at the same time, but I've never gotten around to it. He just seems like he would enjoy it. :)
