This is truly beautiful. I love DMC James, he is so tormented and broken, and I think you captured it so wonderfully, and just what sort of power Elizabeth wields over him. I especially love the opening paragraph. I do hope you will write more in future :D
*blush* Thanks so much! :D It's always lovely to get comments like that. And of course I plan to write more in the future, it's more a question of when I get my lazy ass around to it. X) Thanks for reading!
So glad you think so! :D I've been thinking about writing something set in AWE, where Liz and Norry touch on this before the, er, Scene of Doom and Exposition, but nothing is started yet. Keep checking though!
Aw I really loved this, in an angsty tragic way! I love the part:
"He at once wanted to choke the breathing life out of William Turner and hang his mangled corpse from the strap of his belt, so he could display him at public gatherings and say, “See this man? Yes, that’s right, I killed him.”"
So great - seems to mix the character's protectiveness of Elizabeth and Jack Davenport's own humour - I can almost hear him say it!
*g* I'm so glad! That was one of those weird out-of-the-blue ideas that hits you in the middle of the fic, I wasn't sure if it would fit. Good to hear that you liked it. :)
Wow, this is really nice. Really good characterization of both Norrington and Elizabeth, the latter of whom is touchingly vulnerable. Norrington himself is just an open emotional wound, which is great - angry, cynical, in pain. I love him struggling to maintain an iota of self-respect and then completely failing.
Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it. =) I know what you mean about Norrington, he's just so nice you can't help but screw with his character, it makes for perfect angst.
Oh I LOVE DMC Norribeth, Scruffington/Swann is so much fun. Well not "fun" but I do like angst, and being able to pretend something happy could happen.
At that, she sat up once more, neat as a cat, her eyes sparking with nervous energy. “I’m so frightened,” she murmured hoarsely, “So frightened for him.”
James had thought the muck of his existence could sink no lower. As she spoke, he felt his insides plunge below the floorboards and be agonizingly and ruthlessly crushed by the pressure of the waves he once worshipped so candidly. He at once wanted to choke the breathing life out of William Turner and hang his mangled corpse from the strap of his belt, so he could display him at public gatherings and say, “See this man? Yes, that’s right, I killed him.”
Is it wrong this part made me laugh? Even though poor Scruffington is feeling horrible then? It's just so NORRINGTON and hilarious.
No, it was totally meant to make you laugh, I'm glad I managed it. :D This was actually going to be a more humourous story in the beginning, but after AWE, I couldn't manage to write it happily. *sigh* Thanks for reading though!
